Searching the ASG
There are 3 ways you can navigate the ASG to find the content you're looking for:
| Search box | This appears at the top right corner of your screen. Type a keyword, such as 'hashtag' or 'exclamation mark', and press 'Enter' on your keyboard. You will see a list of entries that match your keyword. These are all linked so you can click through to the best match. We allow some variations in spelling, but be as precise as you can. A search will be most effective using key words rather than full sentence queries. For example, just use 'Quote marks' rather than ‘How do I use quote marks?’ to find content on that topic. |
| A–Z menu | This runs across the top of every screen. When you are looking for an entry, click on the first letter of your keyword. You will see a list of entries starting with that letter. Then scan the list to find the one you want. If you don’t find what you’re after, try using the search box instead in case it is listed under a different term. For example, the 'forward slash' has several names, such as 'solidus' or 'virgule'. The lead entry in the ASG appears under ‘F’ for forward slash. |
| Category menu | This appears on the left of each screen in the guide. There are 7 broad categories, ranging from plain English to referencing. Browse the menu to find a general area of interest. When you click on it, the main screen will have some introductory text and the menu will expand with the sub-entries under that category. Scan the list and select an entry, and the related information will display on the screen. The category menu will be useful if you are not sure of the best keyword to search, or if you just want to explore the guide to find topics of interest. |
